Navigating the Academic Job Market

Early Career group meets for panel on Navigating the Academic Job Market. They learned insights on becoming a faculty member, starting from when they are a new postdoc through career development grant applications to becoming a new faculty member and starting your lab.

We have used technology to cross multiple timezone and to stay connected as a group.

Early career members from all group also meet regularly to present and discuss their work.

January Early Career Call

2020 started off with a productive early career call with high attendance. Nimer Ballan presented his work, which was followed by an interactive discussion of his work.

Representatives from Vanderbilt, Stanford, Japan, Italy, France, and Israel were present.

October Early Career Call

Zeina Al-Sayed presented on her project: “Study of Drug Induced Long QT Disease Using iPSC-CMs”. Her slides are available on the Slack Early Career channel for reference.]

August EC call

The EC members discussed cell culture methods and their impact on EP readings, standardization of cell culture protocols between groups, and a potential collaborative manuscript on different methods of culturing iPSC-CMs

July EC meeting

The first Leducq EC call happened on July 11, 2019. Christian from the Vanderbilt group presented some new data (available on SLACK) on hERG mutants. The group also discussed variances in differentiation protocols, and the perks and problems with the MEA system.
